1. Do a Deep Clean
It’s important to start off with a deep cleaning of your property before you open it up for guests. Start by dusting all surfaces, including shelves, furniture, windowsills, baseboards, etc. Vacuum carpets and mop floors. Ensure to clean all appliances — ovens, microwaves, refrigerators — and bathroom fixtures like sinks, showers, and toilets. Don’t forget about outside areas like decks and patios; sweep away any dirt or debris that may have accumulated over the winter months.
When doing a deep clean, start from top to bottom. Begin with the surfaces closest to the ceiling and end with cleaning the floors. This makes sure that dust, crumbs, and dirt that may be unearthed while cleaning are cleaned up last. If you do the floors first, you may have to re-do them again to pick up these particulates.
2. Check for Damage
This is also an excellent time to check for any damage that may have occurred over the winter months. Look for broken windows or screens, water leaks in ceilings or walls, and any other signs of wear and tear. If you notice any damage or repairs that need to be made, now is the time to do them so your property will be in tip-top shape when guests arrive.
To leave no stone unturned, place yourself in the shoes of a guest. Imagine you’re staying at your property and use the rooms accordingly. Does the toilet flush properly? Are the windows opening? Is the freezer in working order? This can help you identify any subtle damages that you may miss during a visual sweep.
3. Replenish Supplies
Once you’ve done the deep cleaning and checked for damage, replenish supplies like bedding linens and towels to be ready when new guests arrive. Make sure there are enough dishes and cookware on hand too — having ample supplies ensures your guests have everything they need during their stay which helps create an enjoyable experience for them.
4. Update Decorations & Amenities
Check that all decorations such as artwork or wall hangings are securely mounted on walls so they won’t fall off when touched by guests—especially those with small children! Refresh pillows, blankets, and other soft furnishings like curtains if they look worn out or dated—your guests will appreciate these updated touches.
The seasonal shift is a great time to swap out decor for the warmer months. You may still have a few lingering Halloween or winter decorations out on display. Swap these out for springtime and summer motifs to help welcome in the new seasons.
